The landlord in Jean's flat has changed the microwave and Jean needs help using the new one.
Jean calls her support worker who is out of the office, but able to direct as well as watch from her mobile, to make sure she uses the microwave properly.
Without the video option, the support worker would not know whether her explanation had been fully understood or her directions followed.
EXAMPLE
Provides a flexible, high assurance monitoring service, for individuals with learning difficulties, offering peace of mind for carers on a permanent or temporary basis. The temporary service is called JUST a MINUTE.
Just a Minute is a temporary respite service for those caring for or supporting people with learning difficulties. Using the most advanced telecare technology, the system provides remote care, via friends, family, social services or specialist care line operators. This enables a third party to remotely watch over or advise people with support needs, from any distance via a computer or mobile phone.
The solution can be extended to cover permanent, or semi-permanent monitoring via a monitoring centre. This offers support to individuals as and when needed, reducing unwanted intrusion and reducing the burden of care on family who are often elderly. The level of monitoring is flexible, depending upon the needs of the individual, and can be configured to support different care scenarios.
